GLASSWARE CLEANING PROCESS

  • Glassware should be washed or soaked immediately after use.

  • When using any new glassware they should be soaked for several hours in dilute acid solution as they may be slightly alkaline which could affect test results.

  • Nitric acid, aqua regia, fuming sulphuric acid or chromic acid solution can be used with extreme care if soap water or detergent solution are found inefficient.

  • Keep replacing your cleaning aids or brushes at regular intervals as worn-out brushes will lead to serious abrasion on the inner surface of the glassware.

  • The final rinsing after cleaning should always be with distilled water.

  • Special care should be taken while cleaning pipettes and burettes as damage to the jets and or stopcocks can affect their subsequent accuracy.

  • High concentration of hydrofluoric acid or hot phosphoric acid or caustic alkali solution should not at all be used for cleaning.
